NOT IN THE DARK

Read what it means to be a child of the light in 1 Thessalonians 5:5-11.

ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK? Researchers say one in four kids is afraid of something. One of the most common fears is being left alone in the dark.

You probably know there are a lot of Bible verses about fear. God doesn’t want you to be afraid. He wants you to trust him and overcome your fears. Isaiah 41:10 says, “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you.” Next time you’re afraid, think about that verse, and be encouraged. God can give you the strength to beat your fears.

God also equips you to defeat the dark. In the book of 1 Thessalonians, the apostle Paul tells Christ’s followers that they don’t belong to the dark. They’re children of the light. Isn’t that cool? You’re a child of the light! As a child of the light, you shouldn’t have anything to do with darkness. And God provides armor to protect against the dark, including the helmet of salvation (Ephesians 6:17).

When you believe in Jesus as your Savior, he clothes you in armor. This armor protects you from darkness. It’s armor built from faith and love, and it should make you confident to live for Christ. Sure, doubts, fears, and other attacks may come your way. But when they do, be confident of your salvation in Christ, and know that his light shines in you.

Pray: Thank God for his protective armor and ask him to give you the courage to not be afraid.

God is light, and there is no darkness in him at all.
